Château Moulin Saint-Georges

Château Moulin Saint-Georges is a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé wine estate closely associated with the well-regarded Château Ausone. The Vauthier family, owners of both estates, has remained proprietors of Château Moulin Saint-Georges since 1921. The château produces a single, Merlot-dominant Bordeaux blend, crafted by the same team that produces Château Ausone.

Although sometimes referred to as a junior version of Château Ausone, the terroir at Château Moulin Saint-Georges is quite different. The seven-hectare (17-acre) estate is composed of clay over limestone soils on a flat site and planted to Merlot and some Cabernet Franc. The vines primarily face west to receive extended afternoon sun exposure and average 25 years old.

The wine of Château Moulin Saint-Georges is an indicative blend of 80 percent Merlot and 20 percent Cabernet Franc. For vinification, the grapes are picked by hand and sorted, then ferment in temperature-controlled stainless steels tanks. The wine goes through malolactic fermentation in barrel and ages up to 18 months in around 85 percent new French oak. Some 3000 cases are produced annually.
